Darren plays along to an original drumless track he recorded and discusses, throughout the tune, various techniques he uses on the kit, including a simple figure that sounds cool when sped up, holding back on the downbeat, single stroke rolls and playing eighth notes with the foot on the hi-hat. The song that he plays along with can be downloaded at drumcast.tv/drumlesstracks.

drumless track lesson
Great lesson Darren. Breaking the song down was very insightful. Thanks, Dave
B flat concert scale
I recently just joined my high school concert band. However all i know are drums. When Everyone is warming playing the B flat concert scale on the keyboard i dont know wat notes to play. Does anyone know what notes are in a B flat concert scale for keyboard?

Bb Concert Scale
Mike,
It just so happens that Bb is the most common scale for a band to play. There are 2 flats, Bb and Eb, making the scale Bb,C,D,Eb,F,G,A,Bb. I hope this helps.

When are you coming back?!
Hey Darren, hope all is going well. Haven't seen any vids from you in a while. Hope everything is great for you. I'm sure you've been busy like the rest of us. Look forward to seeing more vids soon. God bless!
Re: When are you coming back?!
Hi Stan: I'm just finishing up another podcast and it should be posted in the next day or two. I had to wait until my Libsyn account archived some videos before I could post another one. The higher quality videos that I've been posting lately take up more hosting space. This one's about landing on your feet after drum fills. I hooked up my headless Steinberger lefty electric guitar again for this one and did some shredding. Peace! - Darren
kick/HH pedals
I noticed that you are playing the DW 9000 pedals. Why those over the Pearl Eliminator? Is the cost really worth it? Can you compare/contrast these two kick pedals and HH stands? Thanks!
Re: kick/HH pedals
Hey Brian: I think I tried the Pearl Eliminator in a music store once and it seemed like a fine pedal. I just went with the DW9000 since I was big into Steve Smith at the time I bought it, and that's what he uses (I guess artist endorsements work). Anyway, I don't know if the cost difference is really worth it. If you have access to both, I would just try them both out and see how each feels. Even though the 9000 is the most expensive DW pedal, I know several people who use the DW5000 double pedals and say they like them more than the 9000. So, as I've said before, more expensive doesn't always mean better. Peace, Darren
