Reading Drum Music

An e-mail from Oli in the UK about reading drum music inspires a discussion about quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes and how they are used to notate drum beats.

Polyrythmic

Hi there, could you please make a video on 'Polyrythmic' drumming and show some basic beats I could play to get used to it?
P.s. Thanks for running this resource it has been really useful to me!

Re: Polyrhythmic

Hey Pete, thanks for the comment and the idea. I'll look into doing a podcast on polyrhytms. Right now, we're in the middle of a blizzard here in South Dakota. I just got done shoveling a deep embankment of snow off of the furnace vent on the outside of the house so our furnace could start working again! You gotta love this Midwest living!

Peace,
Darren

Metronome and music on a MAC

I¹m looking for a software program for my Mac laptop that will allow me to run a metronome and display a .PDF file of the music at the same time. This way when I create a set list I can click from one song to the next, have the music and the click all at the same time. Granted I may have to code some of those functions myself but even a quality metronome program with the ability to save a set list would be helpful. Any suggestions? Can anyone point me in a general direction? What programs are most drummers using when running their computer on a live setup?

Metronome and music on a MAC

Hi,

I'm using Guitar-pro (www.guitar-pro.com) to create my own drum tabs. Also you can download music that other people have made and display entire songs including other instruments. You can then disable some of the instruments, including the drums, and play along yourself. It is really nice! Try it out.

for tabs, look at: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/

Regards,

Bo

Metronome Software

Hey Brian,
Was listening to the podcast and heard that you needed a metronome software. There are three which i know of. One is GUITAR PRO 5. It takes in MIDI files and splits it up into various instruments so you can select what you want to listen to. It has a metronome function. Another one is GUITAR GURU(Not Really Used It Much So I'm Not Sure About The Specifics). Then there is the YAMAHA DIGITAL MUSIC KEYBOARD. It performs the same function as guitar pro(only problem is that there are no drum licks listed. its pretty much guitar and keyboard)Let me know if this helps. By the way, you can get Guitar Pro Files from www.ultimate-guitar.com

Gothic Radius symbal

I was in a local music store testing cymbals and I saw a gothic radius cymbal. I tested and it sounded great and I'm want to buy one but I'm not sure how to use it to it's full potential or best sound and I hope you can help.

I've been drumming for 2-3 years, but just 4 months ago I got an acoustic drumset. I'm pretty good at it, and I'm always inspired by your podcast.
