Hi There,
Currently my only kit is a Yamaha DTXtremeIIs, when I took my first lessons my teacher told me the kit would make me lazy, she had a point on that, the rebound of an acoustic drum would indeed make me work harder, butt that's what pillows are for I thought... annyway I love my electronic drum, it gives me the chance to practice for a long period of time so my learning curve was verry verry steep and thats why I love it so much, nevertheless the appetite for an acoustic set is trimendous, so I'm saving all my money to buy me my first maple kit...
About customizing the electronic kit, I think there are lots of ways to do that, don't know about the rolands but my Yamaha is fully expandable, for example i bought me a 2nd snare which is a big bigger and use it now as a floor tom, + an extra symbal, so now I got 3 tom tom's 2 flords, 4symbals & a hi-hat, all I need to express myself.
It's true these electric kits are verry expensive butt i havn't regret it one single day...

Hey Darren,
Great podcast - can't wait for more! Any more tips on improving paradiddles? Feel like my doubles have really come a long way (and everything else too)... but I still struggle on paradiddles and I've seen what someone can do with them on a kit when they become second nature.
Humus- have the same kit and love it as well for the same reasons!

I had an electronic ION set which really messed with my poster and sticking until I got a real drumset. Buy it now is all I can say. If you have a local music-go-round they have some GREAT PRICES (although not the BEST selection) on cymbals. My old ION was the same way with customizale parts but thee real deal is MUCH BETTER. I got My tama barely used, perfect shell condition, new and tuned heads, two rack toms and a floor tom, A beautiful matching snare a bass drum all for less than $250. Of course my cymbals all came separate.
If you buy the drums you can also put you electric kit behind you or somthing like for an accent.

Hey I have a roland Td-3 (with mesh snare) and i love it to. and i get 3 hours or more of practice in each day now rather then 1. I'd suggest not "upgrading" to a acoustic kit, but to buy an acoustic kit as well. I have a Mapex Pro-M Fusion as well and when i set them up together its a lot of fun.
I'd say my kits are fairly nice for a 15 year old haha. I spend my summers working and then come fall, I'm in the music store searching out new drums and hardware. But next I'm thinking I'll by a Marimba!
